Thanksgiving 101

Christine Hopkins - Friday, November 20, 2015
You've been invited to dinner and you're told to "Just bring yourself."  What do you do?

( Don't just bring yourself ! )
  • Wine- A chilled Riesling for white wine or a nice Pinot Noir if red is preferred.
  • Flowers- Save your host/hostess time by bringing flowers trimmed arranged, and in a container that you don’t mind leaving.
  • Beer- A craft beer or something different they wouldn't’t normally buy for themselves.
  • Breakfast items- Your host may have guests from out of town staying overnight. Help out by bringing items they can cook for breakfast the next morning. Pancake mixes, breakfast meats, bagels and cream cheese are a few good suggestions.
  • Side Dish or Dessert- Bringing a side dish or dessert is always nice. Just make sure to ask your host before you do. Their menu has probably been planned out for weeks. If you choose a hot dish make sure it’s something that can be heated up in the microwave. The oven is your host's territory!
  • Be Helpful- Offer to be a runner or lend a hand where needed.  If you have teenage children coming along, remind them NOT to text at the table and ask them to offer with clean up.
